Adaptive Swim Lessons

Our Adaptive Swim Lessons at the YMCA of Pawtucket are designed to provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive aquatic experience for individuals with physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities. With small class sizes and personalized instruction, participants receive tailored guidance that fits their unique needs and goals.

Each lesson is led by certified instructors trained in adaptive techniques and water safety. Our focus is on building confidence, improving mobility, and promoting independence in the water. Whether someone is learning to float, improving stroke techniques, or simply gaining comfort in the aquatic environment, we meet swimmers where they are. Families are encouraged to be involved, and caregiver support is welcomed.

Our lessons run in sessions throughout the year. Scheduling is flexible to accommodate varying levels and availability. Swimmers are assessed at the start to ensure placement into the most appropriate level. Class sizes are kept small to maximize instructor attention, safety, and continuity.

In addition to physical benefits, the program fosters social engagement and personal achievement. Participants often build self-esteem, increase strength, and enjoy the freedom of movement in the water. The adaptive swim program reinforces the YMCA’s mission to promote healthy living and inclusion across all ages and abilities.

If you’re interested in enrolling or learning more, contact the Aquatics Department or visit your local branch for details on session dates, fees, and registration. We look forward to welcoming new swimmers to the water.
