Basketball is an excellent sport for children to play to maintain physical fitness, learn about teamwork and develop their ability to make sound decisions quickly. The Pawtucket Family YMCA offers basketball programs for children between the ages of 4 and 17, starting with Rookie’s Basketball.
Rookie’s Basketball is a six-week program for children from 4 to 7. It focuses on the fundamentals of the game taught by instructors with playing experience on the professional, college and AAU levels, and there are some individuals that also have coaching experience.
The Youth Basketball League is for children 8 to 12. The focus is on team building and training participants to be leaders on and off the court. The Teen Basketball League is an instructional program for 13-year-olds to 17-year-olds whether they are new to the sport or have experience and want to improve their skills.
